'Chuong Trinh Xe Lan' or 'Wheelchair Program' was created accidentally by my grand mother.  The story started out as follows:

One day my grand mother received an email from her very old friend asking if she knows any one who needs a wheelchair because he knows a non profit organization currently has hundreds of wheelchairs and is willing to donate those wheelchairs to people that are in need of wheelchair but cannot afford to buy one.  My grand mother was excited about the news so she spread that good news to her friends in Vietnam who volunteer their time to help the less-fortune people in remote villages in Vietnam.  They received the news and collected information and sent it back to my grand mother.  My grand mother forwarded that information to the aforementioned non-profit organization.  Months went by she had not heard a thing about the wheelchair program instead receiving letters from that non-profit organization asking for donation from her.

Few months later, my grand parents went back to visit Vietnam.  Just few days after their arrival, they received complaints from her friends about the wheelchair program who in turn have been complained by to-be recipients because they has not received any thing or even heard a thing about the wheelchair to that day.  My grand mother got frustrated but could not do any thing about it so she sent out emails to her family in US and her friends around the world and told them about the story.

Fortunately, her family and friends started to contribute money and all of sudden she has enough money to buy 34 wheelchairs.  Although the number of the wheelchairs were not enough for all the to-be recipients but they were able to distribute to the people that are in need the most.

After got back to US, my grand mother received an email from her old friend, who is the person that sent out the letter about the free wheelchairs donated by a non-profit organization, letting her know that he and his family will contribute more than a thousand US dollars to the program.  Any way, the 'Wheelchair Program' was able to purchased about 73 more wheelchairs and those wheelchairs will be distributed to the recipients before the 2006 Lunar New Year. The actual distribution dates and places are in the bottom of this page.

So now you know how the 'Chuong tring xe lan' or 'Wheelchair program' started.   Any questions please contact my grand mother
